An exercise in Depth of Field, dim lighting, and something like 16 layered renders, because my computer can only handle so much DoF without giving me the "Out of Memory" whatsit. Just wanted to try something a little different for once. With statues. Yes, not that different. Software: Vue 5 Infinite, Poser 7, Cinema 4D 8.5 and Photoshop CS Models: Sixus 1, Daz 3D, Danie and Marforno, and Kawecki, among others. Number of Energy Drinks/Shots taken while composing: 4 Enjoy! EDIT 7/1/09: Found out one of my composited layers had not been placed at a full 100% opacity (Thaaaaank you, Crinklestein! I appreciate it!), fixed that and reuploaded. Comments
Now this is what I'm talking about. Not one, not two, but three petrified babes. (I'm going with three because the out-of-focus arm in the foreground doesn't make it clear the sex of its owner.)
Seriously, this is a good one. The shadows are just dark enough to set the mood without obscuring the images so you can't see what's going on. One of your best, I'd say. -- Yes, I'm a deviant. What's your point? Official Fan of Bob Dear gods, man, they look completely mortified! Especially the one on the left! I don't know if I wanna play 'Maiden Lost in the Medusa's Lair' with you now! XD
The picture came out great. The textures on the statues and the Medusa's skin came out great. I love how 'deep' the picture looks, like you could just reach in. Gives it that 3 dimensional feel despite how dark the cave/room is. Are the shafts of light post work or part of the render? Very nice job, I always love to see your work. Even if it does make me feel a little *crik* -- "By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes." This was something I'm constantly worried about, when it comes to making 'darker' renders. Dim mood lighting can make or break a scene, and there's a really fine line in between making it dark enough to make things pop out of the shadows nicely and making it too dark for most people without high end monitors to see it.
Since so many of my pics tend to be darker in tone (and therefore often darker in their color settings) I constantly fight that battle with myself and try to opt toward the slightly lighter side. Glad you could A) see it, and B) enjoy it! ^_^ -- *** Creator of the Bob the Retarded Basilisk Fan Club *** "I'mma do the things that I want to do; I ain't got a thing to prove to you." - Weezer Awwww, come onnnnnn! You know this is the cave Anah wants to go looking around for that mythical hidden treasure in while she's wearing that hot two-piece bikini!
I really tried hard to get the Depth of Field thing working well so that the gorgon was the center of focus and everything before and behind her was slightly more out of focus, depending on how far away from her it was. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the way it came out! Except, the aforementioned shaft of light. Cause that's supposed to be a fallen pillar, only it's blurred a little much and looks like a shaft of light. Which I guess, all told, isn't bad. And that's all render. The postwork I did on the background render was very minimal. ... ...And you can't hear any of this because you're a statue. That's... that's just.... (kidnaps, cackling) -- *** Creator of the Bob the Retarded Basilisk Fan Club *** "I'mma do the things that I want to do; I ain't got a thing to prove to you." - Weezer Really? That's really surprising, because I use Adobe Gamma and Natural Color Pro regularly, so I should be just about up to specs, myself. I generally am pretty careful about submitting dark pics without first getting a "go-ahead" from a friend of mine that I know has had issues making out details in my dark pics before, so it's doubly confusing that you're not making it out.
I'll take a look at my settings and see if there's anything up on my end. -- *** Creator of the Bob the Retarded Basilisk Fan Club *** "I'mma do the things that I want to do; I ain't got a thing to prove to you." - Weezer Another job well done. It has a really dark feel to it. Awesome.
